Case Study 1 - PIR Detector
Bill of Materials reduction
Customer had an existing design incorporating -
- 1,500 logic gates
- 2 Op Amps
- 4 Comparators
- 1 RC Oscillator
- 1 voltage reference.

The unit -
- needed to consume less than 50 µamps from a 5 volt supply.
- Volumes were 45,000 per year
- the product had a 5-7 year life.
After
After a £3,000 definition phase, Silicon Microsystems suggested
- a mixed signal ASIC using a 3µm CMOS cell library technology
- Costs were £36,000 for the non-recurring engineering
- the unit price resulted in a £2.00 cost saving per unit.

The NRE was recovered within the first year of production.
